Regional Growth Strategy (RGS) Review

RGS Review 2007-2008

The Nanaimo Regional District 'Regional Growth Strategy' is currently being reviewed. The Regional Growth Strategy (RGS) is a vision of the region, adopted by the Regional District Board, to establish the economic, social and environmental objectives. The objectives of the strategy provide guidance to the affected municipalities and the regional district in the development of local Official Community Plans and other bylaws.

For an explanation of the purpose of an RGS visit the RDN website here>>.

Regional Growth Strategy Public Workshop

  • May 24th, 2008 - Parksville
(Parksville Community and Conference Centre) from 1:00 - 5:00pm
  • June 7th, 2008 - Nanaimo
(Oliver Road Community Centre) from 1:00 - 5:00pm

The RDN is reviewing its “Regional Growth Strategy” to better address sustainability and improve community wellbeing. The new strategy must reflect the ideas, concerns and priorities of the people who live in this region.

Through an online survey, nearly 200 people have shared their ideas already, with some very interesting results! Now there is another unique opportunity to have your say. Two public workshops are being held in Parksville on May 24th, 2008 and in Nanaimo on June 7th, 2008.

These are not standard Town Hall meetings; instead the RDN is going to ask for your ideas on critical growth issues and challenges. These workshops will allow for a thoughtful exchange of views, dialogue and learning.

Please attend, have your say, help us shape the future.
