Electoral Area ‘A’ Recreation and Culture Commission
Grant-in-Aid Program

A financial boost is available for recreation and culture groups in Cedar, Cassidy, South Wellington, and Yellowpoint.

Regional District of Nanaimo Directors approved a new Grant-in-Aid program for communities in Electoral Area ‘A’ at a Board meeting May 27, 2008. The program will start immediately, rather than in the fall as originally planned. That means organizations can apply now for grants up to $1,500, with a July 2, 2008 application deadline for the first release of grant funding.

Grants are available to all non-profit organizations in RDN Electoral Area ‘A’ - commercial and private organizations are not eligible. All grants will be reviewed in early July by the Area ‘A’ Recreation and Culture Commission and applicants will be notified at the end of July of the application status upon approval by the Regional District Board.

“There are community groups in South Wellington, Cedar, and Cassidy who could do a lot with the grant funding. I think we're going to see some great recreation and culture programs develop through the Grant-in-Aid Program in the coming year” says RDN Electoral Area ‘A’ Director Joe Burnett.

The grants are part of the Electoral Area ‘A’ Recreation and Culture Service, which was established in 2006. Application forms and guidelines are available online at RDN website or can be picked up at the Cedar Heritage Centre. For information, please contact Tom Osborne, RDN General Manager of Recreation and Parks at 1-888-828-2069.
